Elephant Poaching Status in Africa

Positive signs for decrease in the crime, but is it enough

World is beautiful because it is full of nature which allows us to escape from daily routine and bring peace to our mind. There are amazing creatures that build up a very strong section without which the natural world would not exist. Among all creatures elephant is one of the most amazing and beautiful animal.
Cargo To Africa
It is created with a tusk that distinguishes it from many others and on the negative side it is a major reason of its declining numbers. Many countries like US, China, the UK to Africa and Hong Kong are now putting into effect strict rules and regulations to stop the theft and let this animal special live and let the future generation know and study its life span.
The cruelty is also being addressed in Africa, and where the implementations are strict, the outcome is very positive. But still there are areas that show a high rate of slaughtering and obtaining its tusks for money.

Area wise Results

The question comes in mind that where are the problem areas and where real reforms can be seen in this direction. East Africa has faced a decrease by half in the elephant population, but now the killings have decreased to a large extent.

In the southern side the numbers are either stable or increasing; this section is not facing a decline either. For More Detail: Cargo Shipping to Central African Republic from UK, the Cheapest Rates offered
But it is the central which is a matter of concern. There is still a very high rate of targeting this animal for trading and there is no stop to it. A very high rate of trade has been seen in this regard but it may be due to a panic sell as a result of the ban which has started to take effect in key countries.
In What Shape Ivory Being Traded
There have been evidences that ivory is still being processed in Africa for Asian markets. This is the worked ivory which is in the shape of ornaments that are easily carried through air in small volumes hardly noticeable. But it is not a public failure, it is on part of the government to control such an act and employ authoritative stand on the activity.
The Eastern side is a clear depiction of how things get better when serious and stern rules are exercised to solve havoc. People should have the feeling of getting caught any time while doing an unlawful action for inducing a halt to this mess. Law, if practiced in its true sense can give a turn around to illegal activities.

Solid Measures are needed

55 elephants being killed every day is not a joke. There is no time to waste, WWF’s wildlife policy manager Colman O’Criodain notifies. Some very major and firm steps have to be taken to get the situation back to track.

What the figures show is that after 2011 the graph has gotten better, but still the trade is high, why is this situation prevailing then? This should be a must do for the concerned authorities in whose hands are the lives of this wonderful specie.

UK Taking Serious Action on Elephant Poaching

Some African Countries could see extinction due to the current pace

Elephants are beautiful creations of God and no one can imagine their absence from wildlife. But there are people who do not care for this and only want to meet their ends no matter how big price others will pay. Africa is a continent rich with nature and is a natural habitat to elephants, but their existence is in danger due to such a high demand of ivory around the world.
Elephant Shipping
Earlier, the UK law allowed Cargo to Africa for the trade of antiques but now a ban on any age is being planned to end the race of criminals acquiring ivory in such a devastating manner.
On their part, UK authorities are taking grave steps to overcome this problem and reject the brutal slaughtering of nature. This will also put UK the first one to stop the severe shrink in the population of this animal breed. It will be a sad truth that they no more exist in the jungles or the zoos for our young ones.

The Government Perspective

The ban is not a new suggestion; there were campaign groups before who strongly intended to convince the govt. for taking a strict step towards the havoc. Some 50 elephants are being killed by the poachers at present per day which is enough to set an alarm among the environmentalists.
However, there are some relaxations suggested by members of the group regarding the trade. Firstly, it is being requested to allow the trade of antiques which include musical instruments also and the second one is the allowance of culturally important goods that are of high value. Another proposition is to allow for the things that have very little ivory present in them and not harmful and the exchange will be only between the museums. All these discussions are still underway to get to a final decision, but its forbidding is for sure to happen.

Stance of Rest of the World

Global direction towards the decision is not different. The leading countries like China or Hong Kong are also going towards the same trend due to high rate of ivory theft over there. It is proposed that UK should instill the outlaw within a year so that its lead can be maintained as being the first in this regard.
WWF
A noteworthy point put into consideration by the CEO of WWF is that, the rule should be for the whole world, so that this viciousness can be eradicated from every part of the land. Or else it will again try to set its root in elsewhere and hence the business will keep on flourishing without restrain.

Training of a new Elite Force for the Purpose

UK military trains a special force in Africa to forbid such law-breaking activities who will be specialist in identifying smuggling of raw material. Border Force officers are also sharing their expertise in the issue to impede wildlife trafficking. UK is also going to host a fourth international conference on the illegal wildlife trade presenting a platform to deal with the strategic challenges of the buy and sell.

Africa’s Waters Polluted with Pirates

Piracy creates an alarming situation in the west side especially

Africa is a continent that has most of its states suffering from draught and food deficiencies. The only region that represents a high economy is South Africa and it covers a major part of this continent’s trade. According to the statistics the piracy has decreased at present but it is still present and if it diminishes from one part the other part starts suffering from it.

The reason may be that a little breech in the security gives the pirates a chance to do their activities in that area. Same has been the case with west side of Africa, the eastern areas has worked to get rid of this problem and they succeeded to a lot extent, but now the problem has started building up on the western side and it is a tough situation those areas are facing. What areas are getting mostly affected?

The Somalia region was the one getting mostly affected by this problem and the attacks doubled in 2016, but now there has been a decline in such activities over there. The Gulf of Guinea is the present target of these pirates, and the countries sharing the coastline are getting hit the most. These countries include Nigeria, Benin and Togo; these areas have become the hub of African Pirates and to overcome this situation west can take the example of how east has dealt with this outbreak. But there are many things that hinder in the way of making any step particle.

The major reasons of this trend:

For a permanent solution the governments of these regions have to see to it that what is troubling their citizens and why they are turning towards this illegal profession.
Decline in Fishes: The first and foremost reason is that the fishing lines are facing a decrease in fish and only small fishes are left for the fishermen for their livelihood. This has created an alarming situation as people depend on fishing for their bread and butter; the decline has affected them very badly.
Cargo Theft

As African countries depends mostly on the ocean for their trade, a very convenient way for having their lives run smoothly these fishermen have turned towards piracy which provides them an easy way out of their situation.
Easy Money: Another reason being considered is that due to the payment of ransom, these pirates are becoming more confident and as they get paid easily they are assured of having money for their families and carry on with their work.
Core Problem: Above all these reasons there are major problems that become an underlying reason of why all this is happening. Corruption, lack of coordination and communication, unemployment and lack of funds for fighting piracy all present a case which is not letting the authorities to take action against this difficult situation.

As it is not clear that who is doing what and who is responsible for the whole problem and if this will be known then another problem stands which is a serious lack of communication. Due to corruption people do not want to further any information until unless it has there personal interest. This situation is very confusing and it is making the trading coasts unsafe and the situation will become grosser if steps are not taken.
